On the strength of its Friday night victory over Citrus High School, the Leesburg High School boys soccer team has advanced to the regional playoffs and will take on Belleview High at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Leesburg Memorial Field/Hubert O. Dabney Stadium. Tickets are $6 at the gate.

The winner will advance to the final 16 in the Division 3A playoffs.

On Friday, the Jackets won the Division 3A-6 championship. Leesburg came back from a 2-0 deficit on the strength of a goal from Clay Walters and two from Clayton McDaniel, to defeat Citrus, 3-2. Leesburg held the visitors scoreless over the final 53 minutes, while netting three unanswered goals to advance.

The Citrus County Chronicle reported that, during stoppage time of the opening half, "Clay Walters launched a 25-yard shot from outside to the right of the box, finding the net under the diving hands of Hurricanes goalkeeper Kris Malz to cut Citrus' lead to 2-1.

In the second half, the Yellow Jackets defense tightened as Clayton McDaniel scored his first goal to bring the Jackets to within a goal.

"McDaniels would provide Leesburg (14-6-1) wtih the winning goal just three minutes later, booming a shot from 30 yards out, over the top of a pulled-up Citrus defense," the Chronicle said.
